Introduction
The Stellenbosch Fynproewersgilde aims at establishing and fostering a distinctly Stellenbosch food and wine culture. This guild is for everyone who is interested in good food and wine, which has always been closely associated with our traditional hospitality.
History
Stellenbosch owes its origin in the first place to the need for the basic spijs en drank. Shortly after his arrival in the Cape in 1679, Governor Van der Stel undertook a tour of inspection into the hinterland and discovered a valley which immediately stole his heart. On 8 November of that year he wrote enthusiastically in his journal of a level valley containing several thousand morgen of beautiful grazing land that was also suitable for agriculture. Through it flowed a fresh-water river, bordered on both sides by fine tall trees. He named the valley Stellenbosch, after himself, and granted land for grazing and later farming.
This peaceful little country town is today the centre of a flourishing farm community. It has become a very popular residential area and houses an renowned university, various research institutes and the head office of several large businesses. Stellenbosch has its own Wine Route with prominent wine producers and is home to fresh produce cultivation.
In an effort to support the industries in and around Stellenbosch, the Stellenbosch Fynproewersgilde was established to promote the fusion of wine and food in its community.

1. Have faith in your organisation.
2. Be loyal to your organisation.
3. Do not shirk your duties.
4. Do not cause unpleasantness.
5. Solve you unpleasant problems at the meeting, do not wait till after the meeting to air your opinions.
6. Do not overwork yourself - give other members a change to help.
7. Do not forget the old faithfuls.
8. Do not take exception when critisicism is kindly given. Opposition is not necessarily a personal insult.
9. Always seek new ideas.
10. Never forget your sense of humour. It is like oil to a machine and you will need it to be sure of success in
your organisation.
